HOW TO FIGHT ANXIETY OVEREATING

Snacks are often what we can turn to when we’re stressed out, and while it can be one of the less dangerous things we turn to when we have trouble coping, it can become an addiction as well. So how do we fight stress overeating?

As Mercury News explains, cortisol, which makes us hungry, and eating sugar can release opioids in our brains. As one nutritionist explains, “Food can give us the same type of reward and pleasure that even drugs will.” So to fight anxiety eating there are several things to keep in mind…

Making sure you eat regularly is important. Don’t go without eating for long periods. Meditation also helps with this as well. One study says that people who meditate regularly can cut down their stress eating through mindfulness.

And the next one you could probably guess already, exercise can also stave off snacking by relieving your stress. As one doctor put it, it’s important for people to put “a buffer zone between their source of stress and their dinner table.”
