A POPULAR DIET COULD HELP TEENAGE DEPRESSION

Diet is a very important component to combatting depression, and now Good Morning America reports a popular diet can reportedly go a long way to combat depression and hypertension.

As Good Morning America tells us, DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. There will be a presentation at the American Academy of Neurology’s 70th Annual Meeting this April that will show that DASH can help depression. DASH is heavy on vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and it keeps out foods that are high in saturated fats and sugar.

As one doctor explains, “Making a lifestyle change such as changing your diet is often preferred over taking medications, so we wanted to see if diet could be an effective way to reduce the risk of depression.”  While this diet has been effective in older people, it can also help people considerably younger.

This report states that the DASH diet is the #1 overall diet by US News and World Report. As one doctor explains, “We can’t silo a condition or body part from the rest of our bodies and our behavioral practices…We should take a holistic view on conditions such as depression, mood, cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease and how food, nutrition and dietary habits affect risk of disease.”
